Puppies usually eliminate after playing, sleeping, drinking and eating. This usually happens 30 minutes after each activity and every three to four hours. As the puppies get older they have stronger bladder control. By the age of three months the puppy already has control of its bladder and bowel movement
Signs that the puppy wants to eliminate would include circling, whimpering, squatting, sniffing the floor and walking towards the door. If the dog is manifesting these signs he should be taken out to eliminate. If he has already eliminated inside he should still be taken outside. |

How to train the dog to toilet: | |
| 1) | During paper-training, the puppy is placed in a small room which is easy to clean. At first, the floor is covered entirely with newspapers. The puppy is placed on this newspaper-covered part of the room every after meals, in the morning, and after doing an activity. | |
| 2) | Initially, the puppy would sniff around the newspaper and tend to walk in circles until it finds a spot to release anything. The puppy will then find a place where he prefers to stay and relieve itself. This point should be taken note by the owner. This time, that particular spot would be the only spot covered with newspaper. | |

How to train the dog to toilet (continue): |
Dog toilet training step #3 The newspaper would be replaced every time the dog has used it. The newspaper should be replaced in a new spot every time, leading the spot closer to the door. The changing of the spot should not be that abrupt as this might lead the dog to think that the certain spot is not the usual spot he has been using. Dog toilet training step #4 Once the spot of the dog is already at the door, it can already be taken outside. This time newspapers would be placed in grass or anything outside the house. When the puppy learns to relieve itself in the newspaper outside of the house, the trainer should praise it and give it some rewards.
Dog toilet training tips #1 The trainer should bear in mind that training the dog to eliminate properly would require longer time and effort, for both the dog and the trainer. It is also possible that the dog will cause accidents during the process of toilet training. Like the previous steps, the dog should be given a treat or be praised whenever he has eliminated in the right place. This will only increase the dog’s fear of the owner and would even prevent him from following orders when the owner is present. Giving praises and treats would make dog training more efficient.
